The Glass Menagerie

by Tennessee Williams

February 24 – March 18, 2007

The Austin Shakespeare Festival is thrilled to present the great American classic The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams at the Austin Playhouse playing Thursday – Saturday @ 8pm & Sundays @ 2pm, February 24-March 18, 2007.

A drama of great tenderness, poignancy and beauty, The Glass Menagerie is one of the most celebrated works of the American theatre. Set in St. Louis in the 1930s, Tennessee Williams’ classic memory play explores the lives of the frustrated yet determined Amanda Wingfield, a faded Southern belle; her poetic, melancholy son Tom, who narrates the play as he yearns to escape; and her painfully withdrawn daughter Laura. Hinging upon a single night in which the promise of a long- anticipated “Gentleman Caller” sets both dreams and disappointment into motion, The Glass Menagerie established Williams among the rank of major 20th-century playwrights
