The Glass Menagerie ¦ by Tennessee Williams
February 23 – March 18, 2007
The Glass Menagerie is a landmark in the history of American theatre, establishing Tennessee Williams as the greatest American playwright of his era. Amanda Wingfield is a single parent, trying to do her best for her children. Laura, crippled by a childhood disease and labeled “different” by her peers, is so lonely she retreats forever into a fantasy world. Tom longs to escape his dead-end job and the stifling home life he endures with his overbearing and self-deluding mother, yet realizes he must abandon his beloved sister to fulfill his own dreams. They all find that dreams of the heart, once awakened, are all too easily shattered.
Travesties ¦ by Tom Stoppard
June 14 – 17, 2007
A Special Limited Engagement produced with the University of Texas, Austin
B. Iden Payne Theatre – University of Texas
Part of the North American Joyce Festival. Set in Zurich during World War I, Tom Stoppard’s brilliant and provocative comedy about art, war and revolution pits the genius of James Joyce, Lenin and Tristan Tzara against a befuddled government official who keeps getting everything confused with a production of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest.
