Jill Swanson on working with 1,500 highschoolers in Oct.

Hands shoot up as they realize that they do know the answer, that they are "getting this". And as many of the stories involve characters they can relate to, such as young people in love triangles, they quickly realize they can understand Shakespeare after all. I hope this helps them understand people better, that even 400 years ago people felt the same emotions, that people across time and cultures have a lot in common. Learning communication skills and empathy are benefits of Shakespeare for students in whatever their futures hold.

Besides bringing Shakespeare to students, we are also a traveling "Career Day". The experience gives the kids a chance to meet professional working actors, and many ask questions about our work and training. As we all have formal training at universities and conservatories, we also reinforce the need for higher education in all disciplines, even artistic."
