Auditioners are asked to prepare a 1- 2 min piece from a Shakespeare play, including The Tempest. The piece may be memorized or read, but actors should be familiar with the text. Any actor CONFLICTS will impact final casting decisions. ------------------------------ All roles are open. Breakdown Prospero - Deposed Duke of Milan, living on an abandoned island with his daughter where he practices magic and plots revenge. Miranda - The young daughter of Prospero Ariel - Prospero’s spirit. Women welcome to audition. Caliban - Island creature in service of Prospero Ferdinand - Young nobleman, heir of Alonso, falls in love with Miranda. Alonso - King of Naples aided in usurping Propero’s throne Antonio - Prospero’s power-hungry and foolish brother. Sebastian - Alonso’s brother. An aggressive coward Gonzalo - An old, honest lord, Gonzalo helped Prospero and Miranda to escape after Antonio usurped Prospero’s title. Trinculo - Jester Stephano - Stephano, a drunken butler Boatswain - vigorously good-natured fellow Artistic Director, Ann Ciccolella is directing. Bio ANN CICCOLELLA Ann has been artistic director for Austin Shakespeare for the past 3 years staging acclaimed productions such as Shakespeare’s “Dream: A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” Schiller’s “Mary Stuart,” and Oscar Wilde’s “An Ideal Husband.” Previously previous, she was Managing Director for Zachary Scott Theatre and executive director for Austin Circle of Theatres. Ann also served as artistic director for ZACH’s Project InterAct, (1996-8) which toured professional productions throughout central Texas. At ZACH, Ann served as stage director for: Cabaret, Vagina Monologues, Full Gallop, Closer, Master Class, and Misery. in Zilker park (1990) she directed Sondheim's Into the Woods. Before moving to Austin, Ann served as associate director for Shakespeare-on-Wheels from the University of Maryland Baltimore Country. For ten years, she led the Renaissance Theater Company as Artistic Director, producing and directing Off Broadway and along the East Coast including an outdoor uncut Romeo and Juliet and Measure for Measure in Washington Square Park, after she graduated from NYU. These days, Ann also leads a professional weekly training for actors and directors, “Shakespeare Studio.” Performances: Thursday, Sept. 16 - Sunday, Oct. 3
