Auditions: A Streetcar Named Desire, Medea, Macbeth

Austin Shakespeare will audition for the 2015-16 season of A Streetcar Named Desire, Medea, and Macbeth on Thursday Aug. 6 from 7 pm by appointment at the Dougherty Arts Center, 1100 Barton Springs Rd.

For Equity and non-Equity. Actors of all ethnic/racial background are encouraged to audition. Auditioners should prepare a 1-2 minute piece of heightened language; including pieces from this season’s plays. Audition speeches should be memorized or read with familiarity. On occasion, Austin Shakespeare uses cross-gender casting. Also, age range noted in character descriptions is a matter of appearance. Auditioners should familiarize themselves with the plays they are auditioning for. 

Rehearsals & Performance dates: Streetcar rehearsals begin October 20; Performances November 18 - Dec. 6.  Medea rehearsals begin January 19, 2016; Performances February 17-March 6 both at the Long Center’s Rollins Theater.  Macbeth rehearsals begin April 5, 2016; Performance May 4-29 at Zilker Hillside Theater.

All roles open except Macbeth (Marc Pouhe') and Medea (Franchelle  Dorn). No travel fees or accommodations available for out of town actors.  These auditions are ONLY for actors who have not already worked for Austin Shakespeare.  Equity contract is SPT 1.

Stanley Kowalski - 20s-30s ambitious working class brute

Steve Hubble - 30s-40s upstairs neighbor friend of Stanley

Harold Mitchell (Mitch) 30s sensitive friend of Stanley; biggish build; courts Blanche

Mexican Woman - ability to sing

Blanche DuBois - 30s high strung cultured Southern teacher with a past

Pablo Gonzales - cardplaying friend of Stanley; ability to sing

Young Collector - teens  or early 20s

Nurse - ability to sing

Doctor - ability to sing
