Playwriting Class with Artistic Director Ann Ciccolella


After a success of two Zoom Playwriting series, Austin Shakespeare is offering a four-week online workshop beginning Wednesday, February 3, 2021.

Taught by Artistic Director Ann Ciccolella and culminating in an online showcase featuring professional actors performing dialogue from the scenes created by the participating playwrights through the workshop.

This workshop series encourages new writing as well as advocates revising past work(s). It focuses on building conflict between characters at the core of dialogue as patricipants refer to plays ranging from Stoppard to Shakespeare.

Participants have ranged from experienced playwrights to new-comers. All of them have learned from each other as well as from studying the work of master playwrights. - Ann Ciccolella.

 

ABOUT ANN CICCOLELLA: As a playwright, Ann Ciccolella had full productions of her scripts, Madame X, and Fruits and Vegetables from Austin’s Different Stages, and recently her adaptation of The Odyssey at the Long Center’s Rollins Theater. She has adapted and staged Checkov’s The Seagull, Ibsen’s Hedda, and is currently writing a version of Maeterlink’s Monna Vanna to be performed in August 2021. A graduate of NYU’s program in Dramatic Literature, and History of Theater, Ann has taught at the Department of Theater and Dance, UT Austin and St Edwards University.
